Create Dynamics AX Workflows in Three Easy Steps by Workflow for Dummies Wizard
As I have mentioned in an earlier post, to get my life easier with developing new Dynamics AX Workflows I have created an easy to use wizard that generates AOT objects for one Approval workflow in Dynamics AX 2009, without writing a single line of code. I have used this wizard since more than a year to develop all the workflows that I had to develop.
I have been asked many times by Dynamics AX technical and functional consultants to share that with them. And here I am sharing it with the Dynamics AX community.
By following three steps, Dynamics AX Workflow for Dummies simply:
- Adds a Workflow Template
- Adds a Workflow Category
- Adds a Workflow Approval
- Adds a workflow state field to the selected table
- Enables the workflow for the selected form
- Creates needed classes like the document class for the workflow document
- Creates a query (Workflow Document)
Here are the steps that you have to follow: (pictures speak quietly)
Generated AOT Objects Parameters
After clicking Finish, you would get a Dynamics AX Project:
In order to configure the generated Workflow template, go to the module that you have selected in the wizard, and open the Workflow Configuration under the Setup menu of that module. This is what you will have:

I’m using the AX 2009 version. But you won’t find in the standard installation because it is a new tool that I have developed and not Microsoft. If you want to have it then please let me know, then you can import it to your environment and start using it

I have a scenario as follow:
Sales Order is created and then approved by two departments through workflow; now I want to add one more level on work flow that after both the approvals if Sales Order is amended that it should again go for approval from both the departments.
Please help me in this how can I configure this third step in my Workflow.

Hi Mohammad Asif,
What you should basically do is to modify the “update” in the “SalesTable” and “SalesLine” tables so whenever any update on those tables happens.. the “Workflow status” filed will be turned back to “Submitted” status. You also need to re-run the workflow always when the status is “Submitted” (weather it is from the first, second or whatever time).

This looks like a great tool to simplify the process of creating new tasks. Can you please email this to me?
Is it possible to use this tool to create a reassignment feature for workflow? For example an approver is not available for several hours as oppossed to being away on formal leave. The person submitting the transaction is aware of such and wants to reassign to a list of other approved parties.

This is quite interesting,can i have copy of this project? Any body guys knows on how to add the criteria from workflow?scenario : I Add new field from the table and wish that field will be part of the workflow criteria.But i cannot find the newly additional field when I manage the workflow criteria..
hint: I already modified the Query and add the newly added field associated to the workflow calls that query in getQueryName method.)
